GOING ON AN EXPEDITION AND BEING ASSESSED...
This morning we left for Tambuki. We were on our way to camp there for 2days. The reason for going on a camp was to teach us more about nature and also to see and recognize everything that we have learned about so far. We left at about 8 in the morning and our group got there at 12:15. On our way to Tambuki we each got a turn to be assessed by one of the second year students. We had to put everything we knew into practice.
It was an interesting experience to be walking and recognizing everything that I’ve learned so far. Getting to see, feel and even smell different kind of things that we saw was a good experience. It also made it easier to differentiate between the different trees that there are. Some trees look well alike, especially the Acacia trees. Looking at them each look different in their own way... looking or trying to differentiate between trees and plants you need to look closer at what they are and what their features are. This is all a part of what we learned on our way there.
FACTORS YOU LOOK FOR WHEN POINTING OUT TREES AND PLANTS:
• Whether it has thorns
• What colour it is
• What kind of leaves it has
• How high it grows
• Where its growing
• Does it have seeds or fruits
• How big it is
THE NEXT DAY...
We went to the other big rock located on Sondela. This is usually where they stop on the quad rides. It’s a beautiful view from up there. Here we learned about the history of this place. It was really interesting to know that a couple hundred or thousand years ago there were other people living there as well. Small factors that are located there show that there were other people there before we were.
Small things that we found and noticed about the area like sharpened rocks, these could have been used for cutting material. We also found bone that was transformed into a sort of solid rock, this shows that the bones were heated up for a long time. Interesting what we also found was a regular used groove in the rocks that was most probably used for sharpening things... Learning about the cultural heritage was interesting.
THAT NIGHT...
We all helped in preparing the food, had nice teamwork from some members of the group. After we had supper we all had some fun and relaxed for the night as it was cloudy and we couldn’t do our stars. We had some good laughs and we really enjoyed our trip...
FOR ANYBODY THAT’S LOOKING FOR THE REAL OUTDOOR EXPERIENCE, TAMBUKI IS THE BEST PLACE TO COME TO!!! CONTACT SONDELA, YOU’LL HAVE AN AWSOME TIME!!!
